Hello, today I want to share my interview experience at SmartBear ASE Intern position. Even though I was not selected in the end, I walked away with valuable feedback and lessons.

Application Process for SmartBear ASE Intern

I applied online for the position in the month of May 2024. Around 10 days later I received a call from HR. The HR representative was very friendly and professional. They asked me about my past internship experiences, my college background, and the projects that I did. Later they explained me about the role and a clear idea on what to expect in the hiring process.

Behavioral Assessment

After around a week, I got a mail inviting me to complete a behavioral assessment from Predictive Index. It was a fairly simple assessment in which I just had to tick some checkboxes on the things that applied to me.

Hiring Manager Interview

After the behavioral assessment, I got an email for interview with the hiring manager. This interview was a non-technical one, which focused more on getting to know me better. First, they explained SmartBear’s values and then asked me to which of the values my personality would fit. We discussed more about my hobbies. It was a fun conversation. In the end I asked about workplace culture and more about work life balance.

Cognitive Assessment

In few days after the HM interview round, I received a link for a cognitive assessment. This was also on Predictive Index platform. It had 50 objective type questions to be solved in 12 minutes. This assessment was done to test cognitive skills. It had questions from simple aptitude, reasoning and visual puzzles. In the invite mail it stated that it will have no negative marking.

Technical Interview

I was excited that I was shortlisted for the technical round. There were two interviewers. It started with them introducing themselves and explaining about their roles in SmartBear. After that I was asked to introduce myself. Later they went into the concepts that I had mentioned in my resume, my past internship experiences and details about my projects. I explained them everything and then they asked some technical questions from subjects such as SQL, Python, Java.

Most questions will be from your resume only, so you’ll have to be thorough with that.

The Outcome

Since I did not get any update on interview for a week or more, I mailed HR regarding an update. To which I received the confirmation that I was not selected for the role. It also contained some feedback from the interviewers which highlighted the areas that I need to work on.

Reflecting on SmartBear ASE Intern Interview Experience

Though I didn’t get the internship, the entire process was a great learning experience. I gained valuable insights onmy strengths and weaknesses, honed my interview skills a little bit, and learned more about SmartBear and what are they looking for in candidates.
